The Skull comprises of two sections: Cranial bones, and Facial bones. There are 22 bones in all, not including the small bones of the inner ear.
Cranial Bones
The bones of the Cranium protect the brain and also act as attachment sites for head muscles.
Facial Bones
Apart from providing the structure of the face, the facial bones also provide muscle attachment sites for the facial muscles, contain cavities for sensory organs (sight, taste, smell), and provide openings for oxygen and nutrition.
