Many people dont realise that, in Australia, the government will support some people in their weight loss ambition. Medically supervised weight loss programs are available for patients with a chronic illness. A chronic illness could be Diabetes, Asthma, Heart Disease, Obesity, or any number of other diseases. Check with your doctor to see if you qualify.
Participants are referred by a General Practitioner (doctor) and undergo a highly supportive 5 weeks of lifestyle education and change. The cost is covered by Medicare.
How does a program work?
A patient is referred by their Doctor following the implementation of a GP Management Plan. The participant will then be booked in for an appointment - at least one per week ongoing for the next five weeks. This will consist of 3 visits with an Exercise Physiologist, and 2 visits with a Dietician.
The patient should also receive:
• Information / Workbook
• Membership to online Exercise and Meal Planner
• Weekly support meeting
• Support phone calls
