    Doctors accessing medical records

    Hi all,

I have a long standing eye condition that i had to get laser surgury for last year in some public eye hospital that i was referred to by my optometrist. It was an opthamologist that i had to see.

The condition has progressed, so I want to go see a different eye clinic, this one is much closer to home and is private practice.

Will the opthamologist at the new private practice be able to get access to my medical record from my visit to the public eye hospital?

I only went to the public hospital a couple of times so no doctor would remember me there. however, i'd imagine their notes from my eye examination 1 year ago would be very useful for the new doctor to see.

    any help much appreciated!

I'm sure they'd have records of it, and I'm sure your doctor could access them

Usually you would have to give permission for them to release your information.

It is a common scenario and providing the correct procedure is followed it should be straight forward.
