    The story of Allie

    Hi Everyone,

My name is Allie and I am 36 years old, married to the most wonderful man and have a great job.  My weight is a whopping 163.5 kilos.

I can honestly say there has never been a time where I have been slim.  Always the clubby kid in high schoool.  I remember in 1991 I went to Weight Watchers and I was shocked to see I weighed 112kgs.  I lost 30 kgs on the weight watchers program, taking me down to 80kgs,  this is the closest I have been to being slim.  I don't even know what happen or even when I gained that weight back plus more.  Since then I have tried a number of different quick fixes including, no carb diets, egg diets, lite and easy, weight wtachers again, duromine tablets, appetite surpressants (herbal type).
112kgs doesn't seem that bad when i get on the scales today - weighing in at a whopping 163.5kg

So you may be asking what's changed?    I honestly don't know the answer to that except my thinking has changed.  I have had some lows in the past few years. which includes losing my father (blot clot), my best friend (killed in a road accident) and then another close friend in August 05 (Cancer).   Added to this my brother survived a heart attack late last year.

It's time for some highs and for me that is losing weight. This desperate urge to lose weight led me to apply to be on the biggest loser, as you gathered i was unsuccessful.  Im at peace with not being selected and this has lead me to move to plan B.  So far I have lost 7.5kgs.  I don't see this as a diet, for me its a lifestyle change.  I will admit the biggest struggle I have is exercising.

Prior to applying to be on the Biggest Loser my husband was the only person who knew my true weight.  Now I have confined in my sister and a number of forum friends.   Confining in people about my weight makes it more real, i think previously i was in denial.

Is this going to be an easy road - No
Do I need help - Yes
Can I do it - YES YES YES.

I have just finished reading Ray's walkers programme for the really unfit and my day 1 is today.  I will post back here later tonight after my 10 minute walk.

Finally, I also want to say a big THANK YOU to Ray.   You truely are a wonderful caring person.   To devote your time for FREE to help us become healthy.  You really are amazing.

    Allie

    Allie,

It attitude is anything to go by, you're are a winner. Hang on in there with Ray and I'm sure you'll do it. I've spoken to Ray about how to be successful with this, and there are a couple of tips I think I can pass on: with exercise persistence is the trick, dont try and do more than Ray advises, AND if you have a bad day it's not the end of the road it's just a bad day that's now in the past.

    Good Luck.

    AK

It's an old world out there and I'm glad I was part of it!

    Re: The story of Allie

Wow, thanks for the kind words Allie! If you really are serious, please please please exercise every day. It really is the cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle.

From now on, if you feel sad I want you to go for a walk. If you feel happy, I want you to go for a walk. If you feel angry I want you to go for a walk.

And you know why? Because it's a positive way to attack lifes problems. Too often we fall into the rut of doing negative things (smoking, over-eating, drinking) when we feel down and it only makes you feel worse. You can go for a walk, then you know you've done something positive for yourself.

Great stuff ArgaKant! I knew you were listening Smile [:)]. Perstistance IS the key. You will have your bad days, that's a certainty. But its how you respond to those bad days that will make all the difference in the end.

    Ray

Ps. Allie, I'll post your program tomorrow!
