    Fluid intake

How much of the fluid you take in daily should be water? I drink about 4 liters of fluids a day, about 1 1/2 to 2 liters of that is filtered water and the rest is 2 cups of coffee and peppermint tea. Is that enough or should I drink more water and less other stuff?

I have a tray of 0.6 l water bottles in my car, because I'm often thirsty, while driving. The back of my car sometimes looks like the local tip, with all the empty bottles!

    Re: Fluid intake

ideally you should drink at least 2 litres of water a day (not counting coffee etc)

i also have a few 750ml bottles of water i keep ready and 3 a day sees me just over 2l...

    hope that helps!

    Re: Fluid intake

water helps flush out the toxins.  Recommended intake for someone that doesn't do sport or exercise is 2 litres a day.  More if you do any exercise.  I reckon about a 500mls to a litre for each hour of sport or exercise would help with what you've sweated out. Any caffeine needs two glasses of water per 1 cup to replace what the caffeine does too!

I'm trying to keep my fluids (water only) at 3 litres.  slowly but surely getting there by having a 1.25 litre water bottle at my desk at work.  At home it's a little more difficult! :D

I was listening to the radio today to a segment I listen to every Wednesday with a Perth Nutritionist and she mentioned that you should drink 40mls of water for each kg of body weight. This is for optimal kidney function.ATM,I'm drinking between 2-3 litres of water, plus I have about 3 cups of green tea per day.

    Re: Fluid intake

I am going to suggest something completely different to the common folk law.

Drinking is not particularly important or relevant to the issue!

Drinking is very important to help the sale of botted water “drink our product and you will be healthy”.

Even if it is an overpriced and environmentally unfriendly product.

How much pollution is caused by packing water in plastic bottles and then transporting it in some cases half way around the world?????????

The important issue is hydration there are several issues that affect hydration such as

    Relative humidity

    Temperature

    Activity levels

A guide to how hydrated you are is your urine output.

If you are urinating regularly say about every 90 min and you urine is pale in colour you should be adequately hydrated.

If you are urinating infrequently or the urine is dark you should try and drink more.

Remember there is a lag between drinking and the water being absorbed so if you expect to be very active there would be an advantage to having a modest drink about 10 minutes before the activity sipping water during the activity would be better than having a large drink afterwards.

Of course if you feel thirsty have a drink.

agree with you there on the whole pee thing.
i love my tap water, i hate tap water 'chilled' lol! im fussy bout my water! not a fan of bottle water but if im caught out with no bottle i just get the cheap coles water for like 50c. my hubby cant stand water so im fine with him buying flavoured springwater and i re-use his bottles or recycle them.. Re: Fluid intake

I bought an 8 liter Brita filter unit and use it to filter my tankwater, to take out the birdpoo and bacteria  from the roof and any polution, that might come down with the rain. The result is very good tasting water, that I then put into bottles, that I recycle.

    Re: Fluid intake

As long as water is your main choice of drink over:-
    coffee
    alchohol
    soft drinks (diet or not)
Fruit juice (no better than softdrinks)

I drink tap water. When I am at work I usually go through 4 litres, and then more at night. That is a massive amount, but I am a big guy.

I wouldn't worry about measuring it, just make sure water is a prefference and you should be fine.

But the 8 glasses a day rule is usually good.

    Re: Fluid intake

The water here comes out kinda dark sometimes so its very discussting. Other wise i'd drink WAY more water. We're only going to be here for another couple of months. Untill then ill drink as much as I can.
