5 Phone Calls From Adro To Be Won!

How Do You Feel About Being Overweight?

As I've mentioned in a number of threads I have a series of lectures to perform to trainers and Fitness Centre owners. I really want to get across to them what it feels like to be overweight (as most have never been). I want it to be from the heart. I want them to really feel your emotions.

So what is it doing in the Competition section?

Well, I'd like to hear from you all on your experiences. Because I want it to be a very personal account of your feelings I'd like it PM'd or emailed to me.

We will choose 5 winners, who will each get a phone call from Adro!

If you enter, I will be using your story (with name ommitted of course) to educate these trainers.

So what should you write about?

    1. How did you come to be overweight? Was it an emotional, a lack of activity, a love of food, a lack of education, or all of the above?

    2. What finally made you seek help? Usually people think about it for a while but often there is one event that causes an action to search on the internet, go for a walk, join a gym, etc.

    3. How do you feel about yourself? Please be very honest.

    4. How do you think others percieve you? Once again be very honest. (remember, no names are used!)

    5. What's it like for you to go shopping for clothes?

    6. How would/did you feel walking into the gym for the first time?

    7. How would/did you feel exercising in front of people?

    8. What have you tried, to lose weight?

And a couple of others at the end:

    9. What type of people do you think use fitness centres?

    10. What do you think a Personal Trainer would think when they look at you? (This is important because most trainers talk without considering this)

    11. Have you had any bad experiences in fitness centres?

Provide a smuch detail as possible. Please don't write them as question and answer. I'd like to have it as your story!

    Thanks heaps!

    Ray

Are we posting this here or emailing it to you privately?  I've got a little head start as I just did a little speech for fitness first with some of this stuff!

You're most welcome to use it as I had a bad experience with a personal trainer and I really would like them to understand what we actually go through in our heads!

That is exactly what I'm talking about. We have loads of life experiences on this forum and we can really make an impact on the attendees of this lecture.

Just email or PM me (the more emotional/descriptive the better!)

Re: 5 Phone Calls From Adro To Be Won!

Here is my entry Ray, i PMed it to you, but i wanted to share it..

Hi Ray here is the little speech about my experience...

My name's Sam, i am turning 15 and i am 10 kilograms overweight for my age and height. Whenever i tell one of my friends i think i need to lose weight, they tell me to stop being stupid and tell me how i dont need to, how im not fat and so on. The thing is, with all my gear on, i dont look overweight.
When i was aroun 10 years old i was the second fastest kid in my school. I made it to the Regional champions in athletics and won heaps of ribbons. I played soccer on the weekends, did Little Athletics every Friday night, and was an extremely active child. However once i started high school and started getting bullied by the other kids i dont know.. i sort of turned to food in a way i guess. I cant actually be sure of what happened, but it must have had something to do with the bullying. I found myself staying at home on the weekends, when i was bored, i would eat, when i was sad, i would eat, thats what i enjoyed doing, eating. I quit soccer and stopped Little Athletics. I think i really started puttin on weight though when i started earning money doing baby-sitting. I would be on t he way to school, or on the way home with $20 in my pocket and walk past a KFC or McDonalds, and i would think What the heck, and gauge on the fries, burgers and ice-cream nearly every day. I didn't really care or notice, until my class had to do swimming once a week for sport. On the first day of swimming i took my top off, and walked out to where all the kids were waiting to get in the pool. All the popular guys were standing around with big muscles and flat stomouches, and i was there sitting down with my small man-boobs and tummy-rolls.. i remember a couple of the kids laughing a bit and making a couple of comments.. it did hurt a bit..
I know this is going to sound weird, but it was actually watching the Biggest Loser that inspired me to do something about my weight. As i saw how all these people were eating healthy and exercising, and transforming amazingly, i wanted to give it a shot. I started off at the beginning of the season. I ate healthy and did some jogging and exercise. I lost 3kg in my first week. However by the second week i gave up, and started eating alot again, putting the weight back on. Now, for a week now, i have been starting again, properly this time. I have switched my white-bread to whole-meal bread, i have stopped eating 4 scoops of ice-cream every night, now only having one scoop of frozen yogurt a day, and i am waking up at 6am and jogging before school. I havnt lost any more weight yet, but i know its going to happen, im in it for the haul now, and im going to lose 10kg before my birthday in July!

    Sam,

You may have a few extra kilos to lose and you will lose them.

What you do have, that those muscle meat heads don't have....... is courage.  Its not easy to share your most private thoughts with others.  You are brave and couragous and that alone is why I can see you reach your goals before your birthday.
