    A time to get healthy

Hi, I actually started out as a skinny kid.  When I got to about 11 though, I started getting a sweet tooth and then started eating too many sweet things.  Over the years I gradually gained weight, and lost some, but by the time I was about 24, I had definitely started to stack it on.  I think I then became almost a compulsive eater.  At the start of 2005 I weighed 97.1 Kg which for someone 5' 6" is way too heavy.  I'd had enough of having to keep buying bigger sizes and so decided to see my GP.  he then did a range of blood tests to make sure nothing was preventing me losing weight.  Very interesting, everything except the Cholesterol was ok, but that was sky high.

Time to really get on the health wagon.  Rather than take tablets, I opted to work really hard on regular exercise and watching my diet.  Slow going to start with, but then back to the Dr and 3 months on some appitite suppressors helped again.  By the time August came I'd lost 12 kg and was very interested in working more off.  I'd dropped from just being a size 20, to a 16 and going down.  By November I'd reached 73.4kg and was wearing a 14 and even 1 pair of 12's.

I've put about 5 kg back on, so now I need more help and encouragement to lose again and get to my goal weight of 62kg.

I have to learn to be strong when temptations are put in front of me, and stop saying I'm tired and just get in and exercise.

Hi Jumping Jac, I can relate to your weight losses and then gaining the weight again. I was 78 kilos last December and then went back up to 84. I realised recently that my problem was I didn't really learn how to eat healthy and I also knew very little about 'portions'. I relied on weight loss pills to help me and I did lose weight on them (don't take them now) but what I really needed to do was educate myself on good healthy nutrition (combined with exercise) FOR LIFE.  I don't know what your meal plans are now but if you ask Ray, I am sure he can direct you to some helpful sites. There is also a nutrition student on foh named Michelle who has helped me in regard to nutrition. You can ask her anything. She is very helpful. All the guys on here are great and I know they will support and encourage you as they have done for me. I'm still struggling with issues but I'mm getting there slowly.

    Take care and keep focused.
