How often to weigh in and or measure?

    How often to weigh in and or measure?

    Hi all, just wondering, as they title says how often when you are loosing weight should you weight in and measure?

     

    And does it make any difference the time of day that you do it?

    Hi there Chrissy -

    As long as you weigh yourself around about the same time, once a week or even once a fortnight is fine for how often you should weigh in (any more regular than that and you'll do your head in - our bodies fluctuate so much through a single day that  you could go quite spare keeping track of it - not to mention how upsetting it can be if you see a minor gain, or a false sense of security if you see a loss...)

    As for measuring, once a month should be fine, as it's spaced enough to begin seeing changes. If you really want to measure weekly, that's fine,  but it's usually such a fiddly little operation that you mightn't be bothered doing it so often. You might like to keep an eye on one specific area, eg I measure my waist weekly, but only track it monthly.

    For an all over measure, keep track of these: neck, chest, each arm (around the bicep), waist, hips, each thigh, each calf.  You might like to try and figure out a way best to remind yourself of where you are measuring - it's such a specific skill, that it's a whole entire subject at some of the more reputable sports and personal training schools.

    Thanks again cowgirl, yeah I measuerd all the areas execpt my neck when I got weighed last week.

     

    I currently dont own a set of scales and have been getting weighed at the doctors.

    If you are thinking of getting some scales the electronic load cell type are a lot better than the mechanical spring sort.

    Thanks for the tip, Ill look at that when we finally decided to get some lol

     

    its funny my doc said today that I should just go into big w or kmart and use their scales.

    Yes thats so true, I have heard its not a good idea to  weight yourself everyday, I think youd come obsessed with your weight

    I weigh myself daily on my Wii Fit. For me it keeps me more honest. Everyone is different when it comes to this though. You have to do what works best for you.

    i like to weigh myself daily aswell, it sometimes confuses me, but mostly it gives me modivation to work harder that day in terms of eating well and exercising.

    if the scales say ive gained weight i adjust my eating and exercising habits to suit. Although, if ive only gained like 300g im not going to starve myself that day or work out like a body builder.

    if the scales say ive lost weight it makes me proud of my efforts and gives me modivation to stick to my eating and exercise plan.

    i couldnt go more that a week without weighing myself though, when i dont weigh myself i tend to slack off.

    I weight once a week ( sometimes peek mid week) only at the gym as I don't own scales

     

    My trainer measures me every 9 weeks
