    Re: Vision PT

    I haven't heard of them. I had a quick look at their site and they do seem to promote supplements a bit so keep an eye on that. Looking at it though, they'll put you on a high protein, calorie controlled diet, which will work but it's also something you can do without buying all the supplements.

    Find out the cost of the program.

    A girl from another forum I am a member of goes to one the city ones and she said they do not actively push suuplements.  There motto is 75% food and 25% exercise. Once of the attractions for me is the huge focus on food and nutrition combined with exercise. They even have shopping tours to teach you about labels  and teh traps when shopping for food.

    The cost varys depending on many sessions you purchase. its approx.  $30 per 30 minute session.  Included in the $30 is use of the equipment, You are also able to use the equipment 30 minutes before your session and 60 minutes after.   If you pay an extra $9 pw you can go anytime to use the equipment.

    The first session  is a 2 hour assessment including

     The assessment included:
    * Weighing in
    * Measurements (bust, waist, hips)
    * HR recovery test.
    * Flexibilty test - measuring how far past my toes I good reach,
    * Push up test -
    * Sit up test -

    questionaries to determine body type and how many cals should be consumed as well as a training plan,

    that is such a good idea how they take you out into the shopping centre to teach you about labels etc.  I often fall into that trap and think bugger!

    Well I have done it.  I am booked for my assessment session on Thursday at 10.00am.

    Its a little scary.  I have never really exercise much other than walking and swimming.  It will be great to have that one on one and someone who can teach me th right way to exercise.

    Allies Personal Training

    Well i have now completed my first week of personal training with Vision.

    Weighed 161.2 - Thought I was heavier so glad I had not put on the last 14 kgs I lost over the past 18 mths.

    My first training session was cardio on Saturday with Nathan.  We did treadmill, bike, cross trainer and step ups ( not on a machine just me step up and down for a period of time).  All went well.  I was actually surprised that I wasn't sore afterwards but my heart rate got up to 168 ( Ray:  What should my heart rate be to burn fat?).  I really like Nathan.  Always a good start to like the trainer.

    My second training session was also cardio on Tuesday with Jen.  I wasn't sure if I would like Jen as I was watching her on Tuesday and she seemed hard.  I was completely wrong she is fantastic. We did treadmill, rowing and boxing.  Boxing is really hard.   It always looks so easy on TV or watching others but i found it difficult especially the high ones.  I realised after the workout that my upper body strength is very poor.

    My third session was weights on Thursday with Nathan.   First I got weighed - 2 kg loss.  Nathan then reviewed my food planner for the week.  Then we did a bunch of weights.  It was funny because he would put a weight on and ask me if that was okay and if i could lift I would say yes.  then i thought how should it feel so i asked him how it should feel.  As it turns out i needed to increase the weight.

    Also on Tuesday night I joined a shopping tour.  Nathan ( the director not my trainer) took us to Coles and explained all about the labels and pointed out some healthy brands and we got the chance to ask him lots of questions.

    In addition to my training with Nathan and Jen I also walked one day and swam another.

    So first week complete and I am feeling great.  So motivated and looking forward to my session with Nathan this morning.  Loss of 2kgs.   My arms are sore after the weights on Thursday, think I was uses muscles I have not used before.   I will pop back each week and keep you all posted on my progress.

    My learnings for this week

    • Boxing is hard but great
    • Broccoli tastes Great
    • Training is not as bad as I thought.  I always thought people would stare at me because of my size and not take me serious.  I was very wrong
    • Vision is fantastic - Small studio so never have to wait for machines, love the people so approachable and really take a personal interest in my training and weigh loss

    Great to hear Allie. It sounds like your studio is an ideal place for you.

     As high as you can Allie!!! Seriously though, Nathan has the right idea here. You want to get your heart rate up around the 75%-85% mark. The 'fat-burning' zone is lower and you may burn a higher percentage of fat (compared to carbs), but at the higher intensity you'll burn a higher total amount of fat (and calories)

    And broccoli I love! Especially in stir frys if it's still slightly crunchy.

    These guys sound great. Keep us informed!

    Ray - Do you cook the broccoli first?   This may sound strange but i didn't realise Broccoli tasted so good so I am not sure how to cook it.  This week I have been using teh stream fresh bags.  Nathan wants me to have it fresh.

    My memories of broccoli are when i was a kid and mum would boil it until it was very soft and no longer vibrant green colour.    I need it not quite cooked and still a pretty green colour

    No, just cut it into florets then toss it through the stir fry

    Re: Allies Personal Training

    Well I thought I would pop in and give my report now I have completed week 2 with my PT.

    After the first week I wasn't sore but that changed after my 4th session.  I did my weights on the Thursday and then a cardio session on Saturday, the cardio session include sets of boxing and then wall push ups between the boxing sets.   On the Sunday I could not move my arms.  Nathan thought it was teh weights but i think maybe a combo - those wall push ups are murder.  After my Tuesday session Jen asked me if she should push me harder.  I said yes because no pain no gain.  I love having both Nathan and Jen as my trainers but Jen pushes me harder than Nathan.  I woke up this morning sick so I moved todays session to Monday night ( although i did go for a short walk).

    Nathan (the director of Vision) called me this week to 1. congratulate me on my 2kg weight loss for week one and 2. to see how I like my trainers.  I have a fitness assessment every 9 weeks so when I reach 9 weeks I may consider mixing the trainers up for now I am happy to keep both Nathan and Jen.   I love the personal approach of Vision, I would not get this at a large Gym.

    Anyway on Thursday I had my second weigh in and I lost 700gms.   I know I should be happy with the loss but I was hoping for at least 1kg as my diet was perfect this past week.

    Total loss is 2.7 in 2 weeks

    Re: Allies Personal Training - Help needed

    I have now completed my third week with Vision.   This past week the scales stayed the same.  i can't put into words how disappointed I was that i didn't lose weight.  So I would love some input from all (especially Ray and Nathan) on my plan and more importantly the slow weight loss.  I understand I am now doing weights and muscle is heavier - would this be the case after only three weeks?  or am I doing something wrong?

    Previously when I have changed my eating habits I have occassionaly cheated but I have been so good with my diet.  So to not record a loss was upsetting.

    Its funny because I have done Weight Watchers on a couple of different occasions over the past years and did very little exercise and I still managed to drop weight easily in the beginning.  Its not until months later that I plateau.  I now realise that I cannot acheive my goal unless I combine the diet with the exercise so 3 weeks ago I joined Vision PT with a starting weight of 161.2kgs and have lost 2.7kgs.   I guess that the frustrating part,  I think I have the right formula and pumped to achieve my goals and to stay the same in weight

    My exercise and diet includes.
    Diet -  6 smaller meals instead of 3 normal sized meals.  Limit on Carbs (125g), Protein (184g) and Fats (45g) - with very little carbs at night and one day a week with little to no carbs.   I have cut Pasta, rice and potato from my diet.

    Monday - Swimming
    Tuesday - Cardio with my personal trainer Jen
    Wednesday - Swimming
    Thursday - Weights with my personal trainer Nathan
    Friday - Rest day
    Saturday - Cardio with PT Nathan
    Sunday - Walks.

    The cardio is a combination of cross trainer, treadmill, bike, rower and boxing.   In between these I also do wall push ups, sqats and lots of step ups.   I had a very honest conversation with Nathan my trainer and we discussed how hard he should push me.  I told him to push me as hard as I can physically go.

    Re: Allies Personal Training - Help needed

    Hi Allie, I'm Jo and have been writing a journal of my own for about a week now.  It's the occasional weight gain that really hits hard at our strength of will.  It really knocks us for 6, especially if we've been doing our exercise and eating nutritiously. Really makes you question if its worth all the hard work.  I had the same thing happen the other week and that was how I found this forum.

    You have been working really hard over the past 3 weeks and your body is still adjusting.

    Even though you are doing just one day 'specifically' focused on Weights and Muscle building, you are working your muscles 6 out of 7 days so I would think that even though its only been three weeks, that the scales are likely to reflect the heavier muscle, especially if you are now exercising much more than you were before Vision PT, 3 weeks ago.

    What have you notices around the belt and in your clothes?  Sometimes its better to examine the scales weight monthly.  Weigh-in weekly to check if a pattern of gains is occuring over 3, 4 or 5 weeks, but don't let the result of one week upset you, or your Will to achieve your goals.  They wont happen over night... but will happen.

    Stay strong and gain strength from the fact that we're all here battling the same demons.
