    Vegetarian BBQ?

Do people have any proven recipes for something to go on a BBQ that would be considered vegetarian?

Or are vegetarians so strict that consuming food that has been cooked on the same surface as meat (and at the same time) mean that the chance of cross contamination too high?

    Re: Vegetarian BBQ?

i personally can't stand stuff that's been cooked at the same time as meat. so what we do is cook things like the onion before the meat goes on. it's always safest to assume that a vegetarian won't want to eat stuff that has been cooked with meat - that way you won't run the risk of having a hungry and pissed of vegetarian seething at your function LOL

in terms of easy stuff to prepare for a vegetarian (and that can be consumed by others!), i chop up corn cobs into about 2ish-cm thick slices, chuck in snow peas, a bit of chilli, garlic & black pepper, and cook them in a frypan (or wok) with a little olive oil. you can do this on the bbq as easily as on the stove.

as a vegetarian, i'm just happy at bbqs if there are a couple of salads provided - i don't need bbq'd food, but it's nice if the host has thought out a couple of vegetarian salads. (some suggestions: noodle salad; rice salad with roast pumpkin, pinenuts & spinach; baked potatoes; coleslaw; the corn/snowpea thing is nice & easy)...

another option would be to have some platters of cheeses, dips, fresh vegies, that kind of thing.

    hope that helps some!

    Re: Vegetarian BBQ?

There are some bbqs you can buy that have more then one plate/ cooking surface which im sure can be divided between vegesaurus foods& meat eaters. I personally wont eat anything thats been cooked on a bbq after meat has been on there, however i've done a garlic prawn and fish (as i am a pesco vegetarian) in alfoil on the barbeque or after/if its been cleaned go the vege or fruit skewers as a tasty dessert- bananam strawberry, kiwi& pineapple work well as does peachs...

    Re: Vegetarian BBQ?

Sounds like the cross contamination issue is important.

    correct.

it just takes a fraction of a second to think it out, but is easy enough to do. and in the end, if needs must, you can always cook the vego stuff on the stove in a frypan. happy vegetarians. and they'll appreciate that you've taken a second to think about it ;)

    Re: Vegetarian BBQ?

personaly i think that being a vegitarian at a bbq sucks because people are always bringing up that your not eating there big greasy lump of flesh.so its nice to see some concern

its a good idea to cook the vegitarians on a seperate plate or inside on a pan ..if you dont think you can do that at the same time as the bbq you can allways precook the vegitarian food ..wrp it propperly in alfoil and heat it up on the bbq with everyonelses

personaly my favourite vegitarian bbq food is satay vegitable squeres ...brocoli  onion capsicum cauliflower snowpeas. all on a squer..yummo

    good luck
