what can I do to stop the soreness?

Ugh!  I hate Wed and hate Thurs mornings. It seems that my training session on Tues night leaves me with a 48 hours hangover. I'm just so sore. Everytime I bend over, sit down, turn to the side - OUCH! How do people overcome muscle soreness? What helps? jojo

    jojo,

    A couple of things:
    • get some protein powder into you within half an hour of training - protein powder info
    • stretch properly for at least 15 minutes before finishing up
    • a good radox bath or spa or sauna will help loosen the muscles and reduce the lactic acid in your body
Oh, and time fixes everything.  You'll find you won't get so sore after a few sessions of doing it...I don't as much, but when I do, it's nothing like I first started...and I know I've worked those muscles when I do get sore, so I enjoy it! :D

Yes, Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. It can make you feel like staying perfectly still until it goes away, but in actual fact the best thing to do is get moving. You'll be meuch sorer and the soreness will hang around longer if you stay inactive.

You want to try and do similar training to the one that made you sore, but at a much lower intensity and duration. Quite often when I get really sore with weights I'll go and do the same exercises but lift much less weight.

If it has come from bodyweight exercises such as squats or push ups just go for a walk to loosen up. Bike riding can also be quite good.

I do have to laugh though. When you're starting out you absolutely hate that soreness, but when you start really getting into your training you actually look forward to it Confused [8-)]

Re: what can I do to stop the soreness?

yes, it's funny how the sorer we are the happier we are.  I alway judge my soreness level as how hard I've worked! No pain, no gain!

Ok, now I've actually edited the info here and started a working article on my site for a quick guide on protein supplements.  Check it out here.

Please note, I'm happy for suggestions, additions, corrections or anything else...oh and leave some feedback if you like it!
