Hi There Becca,
Here are a couple of positive things for you to consider:
at 22, you have youth on your side. as you get older, it can become harder to lose weight. as a woman in her early 20's you should find that with a few changes, you will be able to lose weight quite successfully.
you have a lot of time ahead to correct things before too much damage is done to your body. the longer you remain obese, the more likely you are to develop any slew of weight-related illnesses and diseases, such as diabetes, heart problems, cholesterol problems etc. not to mention weight-induced injuries to your joints etc.
Here's a couple of reality checks for you:
don't kid yourself - you are putting pressure on your heart, your lungs, your liver, your pancreas, all your organs. you may find it difficult to conceive to have children in the future, if that's something you want. obesity does kill. stroke, heart attack, these have direct correlation to weight problems. high blood pressure. it's all there. sounds like it might happen to someone else, but it happens to anyone. excess weight just makes these things happen a little easier.
Here's a couple things you can do:
1) Get real TODAY. You've taken a big step by getting on the scales. Now, you need to take action.
2) Make small changes. Start by keeping a realistic track of everything you eat and drink. Then, look at one thing you can change each week, eg make breakfasts every day your star challenge.
3) Get moving. Set a timer for 10 minutes - walk until the timer goes off, then go back home. Slowly increase that every week or so by 5 minutes.
4) Get support. Uncover the key support people who will help you reach your goals.
5) Set small goals. That might mean something like: This week I will write down everything I eat. It's small and achievable. Next week you might make it :I will walk every day for 10 minutes. etc.
6) Don't give up, and always ask questions and search for solutions and answers.
7) Understand that in the end, the motivation won't come from anywhere but within you. It's all good to try and find external motivation, but in the end, this journey has to be about you, and for you. By setting little goals, you will come to find the strength within yourself to be your own cheerleader.
Good luck!
