    Weight training

They say you should be able to get to the level of benching at least your weight.  Is this so for women also.  I am 50 and fit and enjoying life and my training.  I currently Bench 42kg and wonder is it really possible for me to Bench 69kg ( my body weight0?

    Re: Weight training

It's certainly possible, but do you need to?

It also depends on how many reps you're looking at. Completing 1 rep still means you've benched your weight but doing it 10 times is another matter

    Re: Weight training

When I started benching, I could do 30 which was bloody disgraceful for my size and age.

I can now bench 75KGs after about 3 months.

Basically what I did was I started benching on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On Monday in my first week I would do 35 (5KGs above my comfortable zone) with 6 repetitions and 6-8 sets. Then I would do the same on Wednesday. On Friday, I would half the weight and do twice as many reps and sets.

Each Monday I would increase the weight by 3-5KGs. It works an absolute charm. I hope to be benching 100-120 by the end of this year. I am very confident I will be able to using this routine.
