    The Biggest Loser Diet

    Hi All,

I'm just in the process of reading The Biggest Loser book and I've just finished the diet section so thought there would be many on here wanting the info.

    Here goes:

    Your Daily Calories

Calculate your calories by taking your present bodyweight (in lbs) and multiplying it by 7. If you're not sure what your weight is in pounds, just multiply your weight in KG by 2.205

For example, if you weigh 100kg, that would convert to about 220lb. Multiply that by 7 and you have: 1540cals/day

    The 4-3-2-1 Pyramid

    4. You must eat 4 servings daily of fruits and vegetables (you should have 2 from fruits and 2 from veg)

1 fruit serving size = 1 cup, 1 medium piece, or 8 ounces

1 vegetable serving size = 1 cup, or 8 ounces

    3. You must eat 3 servings of protein daily. You can choose between animal, vegetarian, or low-fat dairy protein.

1 protein serving size = 1 cup, or eight ounces (about the size of your palm)

    2. You must eat 2 servings of whole grain.

    Serving sizes:

2 slices of bread. Choose a brand with around 45cal per slice.

    1 Wholegrain bun or roll

1 cup of cooked barley, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, oat bran, rolled oats, etc

    1. The Extras

These are the foods that don't fit into the other groups eg, fats, oils, spreads, sugar-free desserts, reduced-fat foods, condiments, and sauces

You can have up to 200 calories of these each day.

    Re: The Biggest Loser Diet

Wow Ray, that is pretty much what I am eating each day right now.  i am a little heavy on the protein and light on the whole grain, no wonder I have lost so much weight over the last month!  Guess I can have a slice of bread with my scrambled eggs in the morning!

The calories for me is higher the calulation said 2500 cals pper day.

    a 3 - 3- 2 - 1   is more my style - I need to focus on the veges and fruits.

    Re: The Biggest Loser Diet

Thanks for the tips, the only thing I am concerned about is eating too much protein and not enough fibre, if I don't eat enough fibre I can have problems with elimination.

    Hi Michelle,

Wow, an Armidale girl ..... thats where I grew up!  I went to Duval High School and spent a lot of time at the Newie - it was "the" place to go but I've heard things have changed.  Left there for a warmer climate and ended up somewhere just as cold.

    Welcome aboard,

Lol, I was asking Michelle in another thread whether that was Armidale NSW. Mention the Newie and I know it is!

I grew up on a property near Tamworth!

Small world.   I have a brother in law from Wallabadah. lol.. Tamworth is were I got my first taste of Maccas.  We were so desperate that if someone was going to Tamworth for the day we would give them money to bring back a Big Mac - and this was before microwaves!   Just the memory is enough to make my stomach turn.

I was surprised at how similar it is to what nutritionists are promoting!

For some reason I thought there'd be something new in it

It's best to use your urine as a guide. If it's yellow, then you're dehydrated (or you've just had a Berocca!), and if it's clear then you're well hydrated.

    Re: The Biggest Loser Diet

there is no such thing as 45cals for a slice of bread.....the least calories per slice would be 95calories....i am going to use R & Rgluten free wholegrain bread...it is 95cals per slice, 3.5g fibre, and .8g fat....the best bread on the market...can be bought at your supermarket or health food shop....

    Re: The Biggest Loser Diet

I'd be interested to see what others can find out about that. I'm sure if it's listed in the book there must be some out there at 45cals.

I just did a quick search on the Calorie King site and they say the average for white bread (0.9g/slice) is 67g, so you'd think there'd be others out there with less calories than that.

    Re: The Biggest Loser Diet

Nutrit. Stats for Coles Brand White Sandwich Bread (You can't get any more basic than that!)

    Serving Size - 2 slices ( 56.5g per serve)

    Energy:  565kj or 135calories               Carb:  25.5g

    Protein: 4.7g                              Fat: 1.1g

So that makes this one 67.5 calories per slice
