How to Burn Fat
Any sort of movement will burn fat, its as simple as that. I know, many self proclaimed experts talk about fat burning zones but this is just where you burn a higher percentage of fat. This is usually between 60%-70% of your maximum heart rate. Most people think this is the way to exercise for weight loss because after all, if you're burning a higher percentage of body fat as fuel, you must be exercising efficiently for weight loss.
Exercise for Fat Loss
Training in the 'fat burning zone' burns a higher percentage of fat and less carbohydrates, but training above that zone burns a higher total amount of fat. Let me explain. Say you walk 5km at 60% of your heart rate. The energy you burn might be 80% fat, 20% carbs. This might equate to 0.2g of body fat.
If you run the 5km the energy you burn might be 40% fat and 60% carbs, but the total amount of fat burned might be 0.5g. And as a bonus you will find that by burning more carbohydrates, using more oxygen, and getting hotter, you will burn even more calories after you've finished, as the body works to bring itself back to normal!
