The Clavice (Collar Bone)

The Clavicles are the prominent bones that run horizontally from the shoulder to the front of the neck. It has a Sternal end (which attaches to the Sternum), and an Acromial end (which attaches to the Scapula). Although it provides an attachment site for many muscles, the primary role of the Clavicle is to brace the shoulder region. The most common way the clavicle is broken is when a person tries to break their fall with an outstretched arm.

A. Acromial End

Articulates with the Acromion of the Scapula, to form the acromioclavicular joint

B. Sternal End

Articulates with the Manubrium of the Sternum.

C. Impression for Costoclavicular Ligament

Attachment site for the ligament that comes from the cartilage of the first rib.
