Patella (Knee-cap)
The patella is a triangular-shaped bone that sits above, and protects the knee joint. It also improves the leverage of the thigh muscles.

It is connected to the Femur by the Quadriceps Tendon, and to the Tibia by the Patellar Ligament. It is classified as a Sesamoid bone because it is embedded in Tendons.

A. Apex

The pointed end, at the Tibial end of the Patella

B. Surface for Patella Ligament

The Patellar Ligament connects from here, to the Tibial Tuberosity of the Tibia.

C. Facet for Medial Condyle of Femur

Smooth surface that covers, and protects the Medial Condyle of the Femur

D. Facet for Lateral Condyle of Femur

Smooth surface that covers, and protects the Lateral Condyle of the Femur
